Readings for Sunday 2nd November, Pentecost 21, and All Saints Day.
Psalm 149
Reading: Ephesians 1.11-23
Gospel: Luke 6.20-31
Psalm response: “Sing to God a new song”
Oh boy!! What a weekend that was, Saturday evening with 7 delicious chilis to choose from and
enjoy (yes, there was a winner by a small margin, but they were all delicious), music from old
parishioners Alexandre and Elisa, the Chalmers duo plus Michelle Viglianti, all topped off by our
beloved and multi talented Brian Taylor who had journeyed from Lions Head to be with us.
Sunday morning was graced by the presence of retired bishop John Chapman, rector of St. Jude’s
in the ‘80s, with a memorable sermon full of sage advice. People came out of the woodwork it
seemed, we saw faces that we hadn’t seen for years, and the air was full of reminiscences and
fun. All this takes a lot of organizing and work, so once again we are indebted to Derek Shadlock and
and his merry band of helpers. Their work helped make our patronal festival truly one to remember!
Breakfast Program
Our next breakfast takes place the day after Halloween so our team will likely be dressed up and
having fun. Left over candy donations are always a hit and help parishioners to avoid eating all
those calories at home.
At this time of year some folks are cleaning out their gardens of extra squash and zucchini and
other produce. Please consider donating any of your extras to the breakfast program as our
friends and guests really appreciate the fresh food. Other donations needed include: men’s
winter clothing and boots; toiletries like unscented body wash, Dove or Ivory soap, razors and
shaving cream; toilet paper; books and magazines. Your generosity is always appreciated.
Our next breakfast is this Saturday November 1st from 9:00-10:00am. All are welcome for
the whole deal or a cup of hot chocolate and a bowl of porridge.
St. Paul’s Foodbank
Our next time to donate food for St. Paul’s Foodbank is Sunday, 9th November.
Fundscrip: Rick will be in the Narthex on Sunday to take your card orders (and, a word to the
wise, they make great stocking stuffers).
Men’s lunch will be Tuesday November 18th, at 12:30 at the Alibi Roadhouse.
St. Judes Christmas Bazaar The Church Bazaar is Saturday November 22nd from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
Donations accepted at the church office Monday to Friday 9:00am to 1:00pm. Quilt draw tickets now on
sale through the ACW or the office. Draw to take place at the bazaar.
Choir!!
Rehearsal time is on Sunday at 11.15 am, after the 10.00 am service. All you need is a love of
music. Please come out and sing with us!
Festival Choir rehearsals have also begun. We will be learning a special Christmas Cantata to
perform on Sunday, December 21st at the 10:00 am service. Please consider trying out the
Festival Choir as we learn music for this special occasion. No choral singing experience
necessary, just a love of music. Hope to see you there!
Happy Birthday this week to Ann D. (28th October). Hope you had a happy celebration!
Don’t forget to put your clocks back this weekend, as we fall back one hour.
