Outreach

Outreach Ministry of the month for October is St. Paul’s Foodbank, plus of course
our own Breakfast Program.

St. Paul’s Foodbank
Our next time to donate food for St. Paul’s Foodbank is Sunday, 9th November.

Breakfast Program
Breakfast Program – this past Saturday was a beautiful day. Our breakfast team served 157 meals. This week the hot entree was a rice, lentil, egg and cheese wrap. It is our most time intensive dish with 2 team members getting the rice and lentils started on Thursday and then adding the other ingredients on Friday morning. The next meal takes far less time – a hot cheese, or hot ham and cheese sandwich served with raw baby carrots or grape tomatoes. The third meal on our roster is a favourite casserole of eggs, cheese, broccoli, hash browns and pancake mix. The team works hard to provide a nutritious and tasty meal for a very diverse group of guests and friends – all ages, cultural background, religion, and living situations. And since the next breakfast is the day after Halloween, many of the team will likely work in some form of costume adding some fun to the welcoming hospitality. The needs this month include: men’s winter coats; toiletries – razors, deodorant, shaving cream, body wash, Ivory and Dove soaps (fragrance free); and toilet paper. Our next breakfast is Saturday November 1st from 9 – 10:30 am. All are welcome!

Fundraising and Social

5 km Run / Walk Fundraiser – Sunday October 19, 2025. Congratulations are in order for a very successful first shared Run / Walk with St. John the Evangelist! Despite the windy and rainy weather, 12 St. Jude’s parishioners and friends walked the course and one brave soul stayed on course as a marshal. Back in the church hall at St. John’s 5 volunteers manned the registration desk and helped with handing out food and beverages to the volunteers and walkers. To date we have raised just over $12,000 for our community breakfast program! And the Lost Walkers of St. Jude’s team took home the prize for the most funds raised by a team! Way to go – Cathy Rice, Sheila Dempster, Ruth Best, and Cathy Ferguson. Donations are being accepted until November 2nd and then we’ll have a final total to share. If you or those you know would still like to make a donation, the St. Jude’s Run / Walk Canada Helps website is https://linktr.ee/StJohns5KRun or you can put your contribution on the collection plate on Sunday.
