Outreach

Outreach Ministry of the month for September is the St. Jude's Community Breakfast
Program. St. Jude's parish and friends have financed this program since its coming to us in
2019 after the closure of St. Alban's. We will continue to need this outstanding financial support,
but have also realized we need other donors. We have formed a partnership with St. John
the Evangelist Anglican Church in order to expand our fundraising efforts in the wider
community. Our first joint event is with St. John's annual 5 km Run/Walk.

Although it’s still September, Alongside Hope (PWRDF) now has its Christmas cards
available to order. Go to the order form on the Alongside Hope website. Two different cards are
available, in packs of 12, for each of which a minimum donation of $25.00 is needed. Proceeds
from Alongside Hope Christmas cards support their programs all over the world.
This year when you order cards, you’ll be sharing original artwork painted by the Rt. Rev. John
Watton, Bishop of Central Newfoundland and Labrador. Bishop John was elected Bishop in
2016, but has been painting for 25 years. “I started painting when my wife encouraged me to
‘stop talking about trying to paint, and try it!’ ” he says.
Most of his paintings are done in oils and acrylics, but Bishop John also uses water colour
techniques of pulling colours from berries and grass, and even did a painting that incorporated
mud from the River Jordan.
For Alongside Hope’s Christmas cards, Bishop John offered up several options, all widely liked
by staff. The two selected images are titled It Happened in Bethlehem and Winter Light. Both
images call to mind the everlasting light of Jesus
